Tough Gigg

In class this evening—teaching five Korean teenagers who all appear to be big fans of Premier League football—the topic was “unlucky people”, and I asked the class for examples of people they know of who had been unlucky. This, verbatim, was the only thing they came up with:

Ryan Giggs is unlucky because he’s a good player but he plays for Wales.

I may not know a whole lot about football, but I know what’s funny.

I used to like reading the intelligent and informative entries on this web-site! I think I may boycott it now and also start a campaign enforcing you to issue an apology. We taught Ann Robinson a lesson she’ll never forget.

Re #1: Hey, don’t shoot the messenger! In my defence, I did go on to explain to the class that Giggs chose to play for Wales over England, since he has ancestors from both nations, so he wasn’t really unlucky. It’s just a pity that this is, in fact, false.

Jonathan, I don’t think this young Korean lad is in the same league (pun intended) as The Monstrosity Formerly Known As Ann Robinson and to be honest, most of us Welsh folk would probably agree with him.

At least we seem to shaping up on the rugby front (and the English are getting worse, hooray!)
